COURSE CURRICULUM

The master’s degree program in Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy requires students to complete a minimum of four term-length graduate courses. Of these, at most one course may be a double-numbered course, jointly offered with an undergraduate program, allowing limited integration with undergraduate-level content while maintaining graduate-level rigor. To ensure a strong foundation in the discipline, at least two of the term-length courses must be taken from those offered by the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy, covering core topics in theoretical, experimental, and computational physics. Students have the flexibility to take up to two term-length courses outside the department, subject to departmental approval, enabling them to explore complementary areas such as mathematics, engineering, computer science, or other scientific disciplines that enhance their research and analytical capabilities. This structure is designed to provide a balance between depth in the core subject and breadth across related fields, fostering interdisciplinary perspectives. The combination of departmental and approved elective courses, along with the research component and thesis, equips students with advanced knowledge, technical expertise, and critical problem-solving skills, preparing them for careers in academia, research institutions, and diverse industries where physics-based analysis and methodologies are applied.
