COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.Sc. in Biomedical and Molecular Sciences requires a minimum of 12 graduate-level credit units for completion. All students must take two mandatory 3-credit core courses, BMED 860 and BMED 897, in their first year, providing foundational training in biomedical research and professional development. Additional credit requirements depend on the student’s chosen Field Specialization, and students may count no more than one 3-credit dual-numbered undergraduate course toward their total graduate credits. In the Microbes, Immunity, and Inflammation field, students complete the remaining six credit units of coursework in consultation with their supervisor, allowing a tailored program aligned with individual research interests and career goals. While students are encouraged to select BMED graduate courses relevant to Microbes, Immunity, and Inflammation, they may also take approved graduate-level courses offered through other departments, subject to approval by both the Graduate Coordinator and the supervisor. This flexibility enables students to develop specialized expertise in areas such as host-pathogen interactions, inflammatory processes, immune regulation, and therapeutic strategies, while ensuring they gain a comprehensive understanding of fundamental biomedical principles. The program balances rigorous core training with field-specific coursework and individualized mentorship, preparing graduates for advanced research, professional development, and diverse careers in academia, industry, or clinical and translational biomedical sciences.
