COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (MSc) in Biostatistics at Queen’s University is a collaborative program offered jointly by the Department of Public Health Sciences and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Designed as a full-time, in-person, 12-month program, it combines rigorous coursework with a four-month practicum to provide students with comprehensive training in observational and experimental study designs, statistical theory, statistical models for health data analysis, and statistical computing. The practicum offers hands-on experience, allowing students to apply their knowledge and develop consulting skills within academic or industry-based health research groups. Leveraging the strengths of both departments, the program provides students with unique opportunities to acquire advanced biostatistical skills while gaining practical experience working on current research projects across diverse health areas. Graduates of the program are prepared to interact effectively with practitioners, contribute to multidisciplinary research teams, and address complex health research questions using sophisticated statistical methods. Upon successful completion of all program requirements, students are awarded either an MSc in Public Health Sciences with a specialization in Biostatistics if registered in the Public Health Sciences department, or an MSc in Mathematics and Statistics with a specialization in Biostatistics if registered in the Mathematics and Statistics department. This integrated approach ensures that students develop both theoretical expertise and applied research competencies, preparing them for careers in academia, healthcare, government, and industry.
