COURSE CURRICULUM

The graduate program in Mathematics and Statistics offers flexible pathways through two main structures designed to suit different academic goals. Pattern I follows a traditional research-intensive model in which students complete four half courses approved by the department, including at least one from the core graduate offerings, and then undertake a substantial master’s thesis; this option typically requires up to two years to complete and is ideal for those seeking deeper research experience. Pattern II is a course-based route with a research project and is available in both Mathematics and Statistics. In the Mathematics stream, students must complete seven half courses, including MATH 800 and at least two core departmental courses, before completing a supervised research project; this pattern is normally finished within 12 months. The Statistics stream also requires seven half courses approved by the department, with at least one drawn from the core graduate offerings, along with a research project, and is likewise designed to be completed in 12 months. Together, these routes allow students to tailor their graduate study to their interests, whether they prefer intensive research or expanded coursework, while building advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
