COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Accounting specialization at Smith School of Business, Queen’s University, is a research-focused, 12-month program beginning in September and designed particularly for those who plan to pursue PhD studies. Students take core courses like MGMT 801 Research Foundations and complete a major research project of publishable quality (MGMT 898), while engaging in advanced accounting research through courses such as MGMT 810 Accounting I – Financial Accounting Research and MGMT 811 Accounting II – Auditing Research. Depending on their interests and supervisor approval, students can choose electives from other specialization or departments, such as finance or economics, as well as rigorous methods courses — for example, Applied Statistics & Econometrics and Econometric Methods. The program offers different curricular streams — including Finance/Economics and Social/Behavioural — which adapt the elective and methods courses accordingly. With its strong methodological training, in-depth accounting coursework, and major research component, the MSc in Accounting prepares graduates for high-level academic careers, including entry into PhD programs, as well as research-oriented roles in business, consulting, and policy.
