COURSE CURRICULUM

The Queen’s Master of Public Health (MPH) is a professional, course-based degree designed to develop students’ capacity to lead evidence-informed action in public health by providing a comprehensive foundation in theory, methods, skills, and competencies. The program emphasizes core instruction in epidemiology and biostatistics, ensuring graduates are equipped to critically assess and apply scientific evidence to real-world public health challenges. The 16-month program includes nine courses, comprised of six mandatory courses and three electives, allowing students to tailor their learning to specific areas of interest within public health. In addition to coursework, students complete a 400-hour practicum placement in a supervised setting, providing hands-on experience in applying public health principles and interventions in professional environments. The program also includes a Public Health Professional Development course (EPID 886), which focuses on building leadership, communication, and professional skills essential for effective practice in the field. Students are encouraged to complete an online Research Ethics (CORE) tutorial, further strengthening their understanding of ethical considerations in public health research and practice. By combining rigorous academic training, applied experience, and professional development, the MPH program at Queen’s prepares graduates to make meaningful contributions to population health, reduce health inequities, and implement evidence-based interventions in diverse public health settings.
