COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Nursing Science (MNSc) program offers both thesis-based and course-based pathways, each designed to develop advanced research, analytical, and clinical skills in nursing. In the thesis-based program, students begin in the Fall of Year 1 with courses in Qualitative Methodology and Methods and Theoretical Bases of Nursing Research, while simultaneously starting independent thesis research under the supervision of an MNSc advisor. During the Winter term, students take Intermediate Statistics and Analysis and Intermediate Quantitative Research Design, along with an elective, continuing thesis work throughout the term. Thesis research extends into the Spring/Summer term, culminating in a thesis proposal exam in late summer. In Year 2, students continue their independent research through NURS 899 and complete a final thesis defense at the end of the program. The course-based pathway begins similarly in Fall Year 1 with Qualitative Methodology and Methods and Theoretical Bases of Nursing Research, followed by Intermediate Statistics and Analysis and Intermediate Quantitative Research Design in the Winter. In the Spring/Summer term, students undertake a Clinical Project, which continues into Fall Year 2, supplemented by electives from nursing, epidemiology, aging, health quality, or rehabilitation courses. The Winter term of Year 2 is dedicated to completing two additional electives, providing flexibility and breadth to tailor the program to individual career goals in clinical practice, education, or healthcare management.
