COURSE CURRICULUM

The UNENE MEng is a joint-university, course-based program designed to provide graduate-level education in nuclear engineering. Students can choose between completing ten courses or eight courses plus a project, with the latter typically co-sponsored by the student’s employer and one of the participating universities. The curriculum covers a broad range of science and engineering topics relevant to nuclear power, ensuring students gain a comprehensive understanding of the technical, scientific, and practical aspects of the field. Courses are offered by McMaster, Queen’s, Waterloo, Western, and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, each delivered over four alternate weekends, with approximately 40 hours of contact time supplemented by 100 hours of additional coursework. Students are evaluated through assignments, tests, and exams, and their grades contribute to their official university academic records. The program is accredited by the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance (OUCQA), emphasizing its recognition as a rigorous and credible graduate-level program. Unlike short-term industry training, the UNENE MEng demands substantial commitment and effort, reflecting the academic standards and expectations of a full graduate education. By combining technical courses with practical project experience, the program equips students with advanced knowledge, critical problem-solving skills, and applied expertise, preparing them for leadership roles in the nuclear industry and fostering professional development within a collaborative, multi-university learning environment.
