COURSE CURRICULUM

This program requires the completion of eight term-length courses, providing a structured pathway for students to develop advanced civil engineering knowledge while maintaining flexibility in course selection. At least four of these courses must be taken within the Department of Civil Engineering and listed as primary on the student’s registration form to ensure depth in the core discipline. Students may include a maximum of two courses from the 400-series undergraduate offerings or the double-numbered 400/800-level combined courses, provided they receive approval from their supervisor or graduate coordinator and have not previously earned credit for equivalent material during their bachelor’s studies. If a student selects two undergraduate courses, one undergraduate and one double-numbered course, or two double-numbered courses, then all remaining courses must be strictly graduate-level and cannot include any further combined undergraduate/graduate options. This ensures that while the program allows some flexibility for complementary foundational learning, the majority of coursework maintains a graduate-level standard. The structure is designed to offer both academic rigor and academic freedom, allowing students to tailor their studies while meeting the professional expectations and depth required for advanced civil engineering practice.
