COURSE CURRICULUM

Master’s program in Biomedical Informatics spans 12 months and requires the completion of 24 credit units. The curriculum includes four 3-credit unit courses (12 credit units) from the Graduate Diploma Program, which provide foundational knowledge in biomedical informatics. In addition, students complete BMIF 898, a master’s project undertaken under the co-supervision of faculty from both the Queen’s School of Computing and the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences, culminating in the presentation of a seminar to describe the project. To complete the program, students select two additional 3-credit unit elective courses (6 credit units) from a designated list. Elective options are designed to complement the student’s background: students with a computing focus may take at most one computing-based elective, while those with a biomedical focus may take at most one biomedical-based elective. Available electives include courses in database management, pattern recognition, data mining, biomedical computing, cloud computing, principles of drug discovery and development, and protein structure and function. This structure ensures that students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in biomedical data management and analysis while developing expertise in areas aligned with their career goals. Graduates are prepared to apply computational and data-driven approaches to advance research, healthcare, and biomedical innovation.
