COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) program at Queen’s University offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop expertise in teaching, leadership, and scholarship within health professions. The program begins with HPE 801, Introduction to Health Professions Education, which provides a foundation across disciplines and a competency-based approach, including a summer onsite intensive. HPE 802, Health Professions Education Curriculum and Design, focuses on theories and approaches to curriculum development, emphasizing alignment between goals, instruction, and assessment. HPE 803, Scholarship in Health Professions Education, introduces learners to research skills, literature review, conceptual frameworks, and critical appraisal of evidence. HPE 804, Health Professions: Teaching and Learning in Collaborative Practice, explores strategies for teaching, assessment, and communication within interprofessional teams. HPE 805, Simulation, provides practical and theoretical knowledge on simulation-based education, including design, learning impact, and assessment. HPE 806, Indigenous Health Professions Education, emphasizes teaching from Indigenous perspectives and culturally responsive approaches in healthcare. HPE 807, Leadership in Health Professions Education, develops leadership, strategic planning, change management, and innovation skills. The program culminates with HPE 898, a capstone project in which students integrate and apply their learning to a significant scholarly project under faculty or mentor supervision, demonstrating mastery in health professions education and contributing to the field through applied research, implementation, and innovation in educational practice.
