COURSE CURRICULUM

The M.A.Sc. degree program in Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy requires students to complete a minimum of two full graduate courses, or their equivalent of four half-courses, in addition to conducting research and completing a thesis. Of the four half-courses, at most one may be a double-numbered course jointly offered with an undergraduate program, provided that the course has the approval of the student’s supervisor and the student has not previously received credit for a similar course in their undergraduate studies. This ensures that the graduate coursework remains advanced and non-redundant while allowing some flexibility to integrate relevant undergraduate-level content. To build a strong foundation in the core discipline, at least one full course or two half-courses must be taken from the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy, covering essential topics in theoretical, experimental, and computational physics. Students may take at most one full course or two half-courses from departments outside Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy, subject to departmental approval, allowing for interdisciplinary exposure that complements their research focus. This program structure balances in-depth specialization with selective breadth, fostering advanced technical knowledge, research competence, and analytical skills essential for careers in academia, research, or industry-based scientific roles.
