COURSE CURRICULUM

The GeoEngineering program at Queen’s University, in collaboration with the Royal Military College of Canada, offers a comprehensive curriculum through its constituent departments in Civil Engineering, Geological Sciences, Geological Engineering, and Mining Engineering. All students are required to undertake the GeoEngineering Seminar course GENG 840, which provides a foundation for interdisciplinary learning and discussion on current topics in geoengineering. The program includes specialized courses such as GENG 842 Special Topics in Geoengineering II, as well as additional courses offered by both Queen’s and RMC faculty. The Civil Engineering courses cover Advanced Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Geotechnical Analysis 1: Elasticity, Geosynthetics in Geotechnical Engineering, Sustainable Barrier System Design, Subsurface Contamination, Fractured Rock Flow and Transport, Groundwater Modeling Techniques, and Groundwater Flow and Transport, equipping students with a thorough understanding of soil, rock, and groundwater behavior. Geological and Mining Engineering courses include Problems in Geology, Rock Mechanics, Topics in Drilling and Blasting, Hydrometallurgy and Electrometallurgy, and Seismicity in Mines, providing practical and theoretical insights into rock and mineral resource management. The program integrates interdisciplinary knowledge and applied skills, preparing graduates to address complex geoenvironmental and geotechnical challenges in civil, mining, and environmental engineering projects while fostering expertise in research, analysis, and field-based problem-solving.
