COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen’s University is a research-focused, thesis-based graduate program designed to develop advanced knowledge and research skills in electrical and computer engineering. The program requires the completion of a research thesis, a mandatory seminar course (ELEC 891), and four term-length graduate-level courses, of which at least two must be selected from graduate courses offered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. To allow some flexibility, one senior (400-series) undergraduate course or one combined undergraduate/graduate course (double-numbered 400/800 course) may be counted as the equivalent of a graduate course, provided that the course is approved by the student’s supervisor and that the student has not already received credit for a similar course in their Bachelor’s program. All students are required to attend departmental seminars, which form an integral part of the program, helping them to develop critical thinking, presentation, and research communication skills. Course and program requirements are tailored to each student’s academic background and research focus, ensuring that the program provides both rigorous training in advanced engineering concepts and practical experience in independent research. The M.A.Sc. prepares graduates for research-oriented careers in academia, industry, or further doctoral studies.
