COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.) program in Chemical Engineering requires students to complete a minimum of four term-length courses, a departmental seminar, and a research thesis. Of the four courses, at least two must be graduate-level courses from within the Department of Chemical Engineering, unless alternative courses are approved by the student’s research supervisor and the departmental graduate coordinator. Additionally, one senior-level (400-series) undergraduate course or one combined undergraduate/graduate course (double-numbered 400/800 course) may be accepted as the equivalent of a graduate course from any discipline, provided it is approved by the supervisor and the student has not previously received credit for a similar course in their undergraduate program. All students are required to take CHEM 801, a non-credit course in laboratory safety, at the first available opportunity following initial registration to ensure proper safety training in research environments. Participation in CHEE 897, the departmental seminar series, is also mandatory, providing students with opportunities to present research, engage in scholarly discussion, and develop professional communication skills. All proposed programs of study must receive departmental approval to ensure they meet academic standards and align with the student’s research objectives. This structure combines rigorous coursework, research training, and professional development to prepare graduates for advanced careers in chemical engineering research and industry.
