COURSE CURRICULUM

The graduate program in Biomedical Engineering at Queen’s University provides students with interdisciplinary training that integrates engineering principles with biomedical applications. Students are required to complete the core course Topics in Biomedical Engineering (CBME 801), which focuses on critical thinking, experimental planning, statistical design, research proposal and article writing, data presentation, and scientific communication skills. Another core requirement is the Biomedical Engineering Seminar Series (CBME 802), which exposes students to the breadth of biomedical engineering research and practice, promotes cross-disciplinary interaction, and develops presentation, critique, and discussion skills. Beyond the core courses, students can select from a range of graduate-level courses in consultation with their supervisors. Research areas include biomaterials, biomechanics and prosthetics, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, and biomedical and intelligent systems. Projects focus on developing materials for tissue repair, designing medical implants and prosthetics, creating functional replacement tissues and cell-based therapies, and applying robotics, computer vision, and computational modeling to biomedical applications. Laboratory and experimental facilities are shared across multiple engineering departments, bioscience complexes, and clinical research centers, enabling interdisciplinary collaboration. Overall, the program equips students with both technical expertise and research skills necessary for innovation in biomedical engineering, preparing graduates for careers in academia, industry, and healthcare.
