COURSE CURRICULUM

The MASc program with a Field of Study in Artificial Intelligence is structured to provide students with both foundational knowledge and specialized expertise in AI through a combination of coursework, research, and seminars. Students are required to complete a minimum of two AI-related courses, including the mandatory graduate course in Machine Learning and Deep Learning (ELEC 825), and may take up to two additional graduate courses as required by the MASc program. Core AI courses cover a range of topics such as signal processing, optimization for machine learning, safe learning-based control for robotics, AI for interactive systems, deep learning in computer vision, AI for cybersecurity, wearable and IoT computing, machine learning for natural language processing, and probabilistic machine learning. Students also complete an AI-related MASc thesis under faculty supervision, providing practical research experience in applying AI methodologies to complex problems. Additional program requirements include participation in the graduate seminar course ELEC 891 and completion of the non-credit course on AI Ethics and Society (APSC 812), emphasizing the societal and ethical dimensions of AI applications. Students may also choose from related courses offered by core ECE and cross-appointed faculty, including autonomous vehicle control, machine vision, machine learning in medical imaging, and integrated navigation systems, ensuring a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education that prepares graduates for research and professional careers in artificial intelligence.
