COURSE CURRICULUM

The Collaborative Masters Program in Applied Sustainability at Queen’s University provides students with an interdisciplinary approach to addressing complex sustainability challenges through engineering, science, and policy. The program offers a flexible curriculum, including electives from various applied sustainability topics, a seminar series, and a thesis project, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests. Core courses and seminars emphasize practical applications of sustainable engineering solutions, supported by modular coursework in areas such as process investigations, advanced materials, water and environmental systems, and energy technologies. Research opportunities are organized into five focus areas: Applied Sustainability and Energy Technology, Fresh Water Systems, Resource Management, Policy Studies, and Innovative Materials, each led by faculty experts in their respective fields. Students gain hands-on experience, including laboratory work, digital technologies, and applied research projects, while developing expertise in sustainability theory, public policy, and practical engineering solutions. The program integrates technical knowledge with an understanding of social, environmental, and policy contexts, preparing graduates to implement sustainable solutions in industry and government. Full-time students are encouraged to seek scholarships, fellowships, and teaching assistantships to support their studies, while part-time students can balance professional work with academic advancement. Overall, the program fosters a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that equips students to address pressing sustainability challenges at local, national, and global levels.
