COURSE CURRICULUM

Gender Studies graduate program at Queen’s University complete seven courses over the fall and winter semesters, including two required courses, four elective courses, and one Proseminar course, which carries no credit. Elective courses can be chosen from the Gender Studies graduate offerings, including GNDS 850, which provides a practicum option, or from graduate courses in other departments, allowing students to tailor their studies to their research interests. Independently organized directed readings are also available, offering further flexibility and the opportunity to explore specialized topics under faculty supervision. In addition to coursework, students complete a Major Research Paper of approximately 50 pages during the spring and summer terms. This project enables students to conduct in-depth research, integrate theoretical frameworks, and engage critically with interdisciplinary perspectives on gender, race, class, sexuality, disability, and other intersecting social categories. The combination of structured coursework, flexible electives, and a substantial research project equips students with advanced analytical, research, and writing skills, preparing them for careers in academia, public policy, community organizations, advocacy, and other professional fields where expertise in gender and social justice is valued. This program emphasizes both rigorous scholarship and practical application of knowledge.
