COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s program in Arts Leadership is structured to provide a comprehensive blend of core knowledge, specialized focus, and practical experience over three terms. In the first term, students complete core courses designed to establish foundational skills in arts management, including arts marketing, arts philanthropy, finance and accounting for human resources, artistic producing, and human resource management within arts organizations. The second term allows students to deepen their understanding of leadership within specific art forms or areas of interest, such as theatre administration, cultural policy, or labor relations, while completing a core course in leadership, governance, and cultural policy. Students may also select electives to tailor their learning to their professional goals, including directed studies or specialized leadership courses. In the final term, students engage in a practicum placement that aligns with their career aspirations and chosen area of focus, providing hands-on experience and the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world arts or cultural setting. The term culminates with the Arts Leadership Capstone Project, which integrates learning from the entire program into a substantial applied project. Altogether, the program encompasses 24 units, offering a carefully sequenced combination of academic study, practical application, and professional development designed to prepare graduates for leadership roles across diverse arts and cultural organizations.
