COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graduate Diploma in Biomedical Informatics (BMIF) at Queen’s University is a four-month, intensive program designed to provide students with foundational knowledge and practical skills in the rapidly evolving field of biomedical informatics. Running from May to August, the program consists of four core courses totaling 12 credit units, offering a comprehensive introduction to computational and analytical methods used in biomedical research and healthcare applications. Students begin with BMIF-801, Programming for Biomedical Data, which is a prerequisite for continuing in the program, ensuring that all participants have the essential coding and computational skills required for subsequent courses. BMIF-802, Biomedical Data Analysis, builds on these skills by teaching methods to manage, process, and interpret complex biomedical datasets, while BMIF-803, Biomedical Data Mining and Applications, introduces students to advanced techniques for extracting meaningful insights from large-scale biological and clinical data. Finally, BMIF-804, Medical Imaging Informatics, explores the specialized domain of imaging data, focusing on techniques for acquisition, processing, and analysis of medical images. The program’s ladder approach allows students to use the diploma as a stepping stone toward a one-year Master’s degree in Biomedical Informatics, providing a flexible pathway for further study and professional advancement in healthcare, research, and bioinformatics.
