COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graduate Diploma in Aging and Health (GDip) at Queen’s University requires students to complete five courses, totaling 15 credits, over two consecutive academic terms. The program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of healthy aging, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application across multiple domains of aging and health. Core courses cover essential topics such as ethics and aging (AGHE 802), the demography and geography of aging (AGHE 803), and the normal aging process (AGHE 811), providing students with foundational knowledge about the biological, social, and cultural aspects of aging. Additional courses explore specialized areas including religion and spiritual health in aging (AGHE 812), evaluation of aging-related programs and services (AGHE 800), pharmacology and aging (AGHE 816), mental health in older adults (AGHE 821), social justice in aging and health (AGHE 831), health and social systems for older adults (AGHE 804), epidemiology of aging (AGHE 810), and management of chronic conditions (AGHE 815). By engaging with this diverse curriculum, students develop the skills necessary to critically analyze policies, programs, and systems that support older adults and their caregivers, as well as to design evidence-informed interventions in a variety of professional settings. The program emphasizes applied learning, ethical reasoning, and interdisciplinary understanding, preparing graduates for impactful roles in healthcare, policy, research, and community organizations that serve aging populations.
