COURSE CURRICULUM

The Certificate in Law at Queen’s University is a part-time, online undergraduate program designed to provide foundational knowledge in Canadian law and related fields. Students complete the certificate by taking any four of nine available courses, earning a total of 12 units. While courses can be taken in any order, it is recommended to start with Introduction to Canadian Law (LAW 201/701), which establishes a strong foundation for the other subjects. The available courses cover diverse legal areas, including Aboriginal Law, Workplace Law, Corporate Law, Public and Constitutional Law, Intellectual Property, International Law, Criminal Law, and Environmental Law. On-campus students must achieve a minimum grade of C+ in each course and an overall GPA of 2.60 to graduate. Current undergraduate students at Queen’s may count up to two 200-level Law courses as electives toward their degree requirements while paying home faculty tuition fees. The certificate also includes 700-level courses, which are assessed at the Faculty of Law tuition rate and contribute to the overall GPA, but do not count toward the undergraduate degree. This structure allows students to explore legal topics in depth while maintaining flexibility to integrate their studies with their primary degree program. The program equips learners with critical thinking, analytical skills, and legal literacy applicable to professional development, law school preparation, and real-world problem-solving in personal and professional contexts.
