COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematics program at Queen’s University offers a comprehensive and flexible curriculum designed to provide students with a deep understanding of mathematical theory, structures, and problem-solving techniques. The program builds a strong foundation through core courses in linear algebra, differential and integral calculus, rings and fields, ordinary differential equations, advanced calculus, real analysis, and complex variables, alongside statistics and probability, ensuring students develop both theoretical insight and practical analytical skills. Students may choose between two sub-plans—Pure Mathematics, focusing on abstract theory, logical reasoning, and rigorous proofs, or Applied Mathematics, emphasizing mathematical modeling, computation, and problem-solving across scientific, technological, and engineering contexts—allowing them to tailor their studies to their academic and career interests. The curriculum also provides opportunities for electives and interdisciplinary courses, with up to six units from other faculties, giving students the flexibility to broaden their knowledge and explore complementary fields. Careful planning is required, as the same course cannot satisfy multiple requirements, and access to certain courses may be limited during Open Enrolment periods. With a minimum of 120 units required for a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree, the Mathematics program equips students with critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and quantitative skills that are highly sought after in research, industry, finance, data analytics, technology, and graduate studies, preparing graduates for diverse and impactful career paths.
