COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Geological Sciences is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Earth and its processes through an integrated curriculum of core courses, field studies, and complementary electives, totaling 120 units. Students begin with foundational courses such as The Dynamic Earth and History of Life, alongside essential science prerequisites in chemistry, physics, and mathematics, ensuring a strong grounding in quantitative and analytical skills. Core geology courses cover oceanography, mineralogy, petrology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, geophysical characterization, structural geology, terrain evaluation, paleontology, and geochemical characterization, complemented by extensive field training through Geological Field School and Field Studies in Geology. Advanced courses explore specialized topics including the geology of North America and applied geochemistry, while students select additional options such as petrology applied to ore deposits, carbonate sedimentology, or spatial information management. Complementary courses in biology, computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, geographic techniques, Indigenous studies, and scientific writing allow students to broaden their expertise and research capabilities. Electives provide further flexibility to tailor the degree to individual interests or career goals.
