COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) program in Geography at Queen’s University offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates physical and human geography, technical skills, and scientific methods, preparing students for advanced research or diverse careers in environmental, planning, and geospatial fields. Designed to be completed with a Major or Minor in another discipline and sufficient electives to reach 120 units, the program provides a strong foundation through core courses such as Human Geography or Thinking Locally, Physical Geography and Natural Resources, Principles of Biogeography, Surface Processes, Landforms and Soils, Weather and Climate, and Field Studies in Physical Geography. Analytical and technical skills are developed through courses in statistics, remote sensing, geographic information science, and advanced analysis of earth surface processes, while opportunities for research and thesis work allow students to engage in independent, applied projects. Students further specialize through 300-level courses in physical geography or technical/methods streams, alongside interdisciplinary courses in human geography, and supporting science courses in mathematics, statistics, chemistry, or physics enhance quantitative and analytical competence. Electives provide flexibility to explore additional areas of interest and broaden intellectual horizons. Overall, this program equips graduates with strong research, analytical, and practical skills to address complex environmental, geospatial, and societal challenges at local, national, and global scales, fostering expertise in both scientific inquiry and applied problem-solving.
