COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Environmental Life Sciences at Queen’s University is a comprehensive program designed to integrate biological, chemical, physical, and environmental sciences with social sciences and humanities, preparing students for careers in research, environmental management, or advanced studies. The core science curriculum provides a strong foundation in molecular and cellular biology, organismal and ecosystem biology, general and organic chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics, human and physical geography, and geology, ensuring students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills across disciplines. The environmental life science focus emphasizes mammalian physiology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry including proteins, enzymes, and metabolism, as well as xenobiotic disposition and toxicity, equipping students to address complex biological and environmental challenges. Complementing the sciences, students engage with environmental sustainability through courses on principles and applications of sustainability and may undertake honours projects or independent environmental studies, fostering applied research experience and critical thinking. The program also offers flexibility through elective courses and specialized options in geology, biology, interdisciplinary humanities, and other advanced environmental life science topics, allowing students to tailor their education to personal interests and career goals.
