COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Environmental Chemistry at Queen’s University provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary program designed to equip students with a solid foundation in chemistry, environmental science, and related social sciences. The core science curriculum begins with courses in biology, ecology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, human and physical geography, and geology, ensuring students gain essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The environmental chemistry component emphasizes advanced chemistry courses, including main group chemistry, chemical reactivity, chemical analysis, materials and interfaces, organic reactions, mechanistic organic chemistry, transition metal chemistry, biological chemistry, environmental and green chemistry, instrumental chemical analysis, and hands-on experimental and research projects, fostering analytical and laboratory expertise. Core social sciences and humanities courses in environmental sustainability, principles and applications of sustainability, and honours projects or independent environmental studies encourage students to consider environmental issues within broader societal, ethical, and policy contexts. Students also complete specialized courses and electives in interdisciplinary humanities, geology, biology, or environmental studies, allowing them to tailor the program to their research interests and career goals.
