COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science and Life Sciences program at Queen’s University is an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science degree that integrates computing with the study of biological systems, equipping students with the technical and scientific skills needed to tackle challenges in healthcare and biomedical research. The program combines foundational courses in computer science, including discrete structures, software development, data structures, algorithms, programming paradigms, and artificial intelligence, with essential life sciences courses such as molecular and cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, and analytical genomics. Mathematics and statistics form an important supporting component, covering linear algebra, calculus, and probability, enabling students to apply quantitative reasoning and data analysis to complex biological problems. Specialized courses in computational biology, computer-integrated surgery, medical informatics, and database management provide students with hands-on experience in applying computational techniques to medical and biological data. Electives and option courses allow further exploration of advanced topics and individual research interests, while courses on social, ethical, and legal issues in computing prepare students to consider the broader impact of technology in healthcare.
