COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geography program at Queen’s University offers a Bachelor of Science degree through a structured plan that combines core courses, advanced options, supporting science requirements, and electives to a total of 90 units, providing a rigorous understanding of both physical and human geography. The core curriculum introduces students to foundational concepts through courses such as Human Geography or Thinking Locally, and Physical Geography and Natural Resources, along with Principles of Biogeography, Surface Processes, Landforms and Soils, and Weather and Climate, giving students a strong grounding in natural systems and environmental processes. Quantitative skills are developed through courses in statistics, while technical training in Remote Sensing or Geographic Information Science equips students with essential geospatial and analytical tools. Students also select advanced physical geography or technical/methods courses at the 300-level, alongside human geography courses at the 200-level or above, enabling specialization in areas such as climatology, geomorphology, environmental modeling, or urban and cultural geography. Supporting courses in chemistry, physics, mathematics, or statistics strengthen scientific and analytical foundations, and additional units in the physical or natural sciences enhance interdisciplinary understanding. Electives allow students to explore related disciplines, fostering breadth and intellectual curiosity. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in environmental management, GIS and remote sensing, urban and regional planning, research, policy analysis, and other fields that require a scientific and applied understanding of human-environment interactions.
