COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Music program at Queen’s, whether pursued alone or in combination with a Minor and sufficient electives to total 120.00 units, provides a comprehensive education in music while allowing flexibility to explore interdisciplinary interests. The core curriculum emphasizes musicology, music technology, arts professionalism, and education, ensuring students gain a broad understanding of music in society, critical issues in the field, digital audio recording, editing, and mixing, as well as foundational knowledge in music education and professional practices. Students complete courses such as MUSC 103 Music, Meaning, and Society, MUSC 303 Critical Issues in Music, MUSC 156 Introduction to Digital Audio Recording, and MUSC 273 An Introduction to Music Education, along with a professional arts course. The program is structured around three sub-plans—Classical, Contemporary Instrumental and Vocal Genres, and Digital Music and Sonic Arts—allowing students to specialize according to their interests and career goals while completing 45.00 units within their chosen stream. Further requirements include advanced courses at the 300-level or above in MUSC, MUSC_Subs, or MUTH, alongside 18.00 units from a broader selection of music and interdisciplinary courses, including ENIN. The program is rounded out with 30.00 units of electives or other plan requirements, providing students with both depth in music studies and the flexibility to explore complementary academic areas, preparing them for diverse careers in performance, production, education, or the creative industries.
