COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) program provides a comprehensive education in studio art, combining foundational skills, advanced practice, and individual creative research to develop technically skilled and conceptually informed artists. Students begin with introductory courses such as ARTF 100, 101, 102, and 106, which focus on drawing, painting, and sculpture, before progressing to foundation courses ARTF 127 and 128 that explore multiple media, including two- and three-dimensional practices, and emphasize technical skills and safety. Intermediate courses, ARTF 227 and 228, build on these foundations by introducing new techniques, media, and concepts, while courses like ARTF 260 and 265 deepen understanding of studio practice, historical and contemporary print processes, and conceptual frameworks. Digital media is addressed in ARTF 275, integrating contemporary digital practices within artistic production. Advanced courses ARTF 337 and 338 allow students to specialize in media such as painting, sculpture, print, or new media, while fourth-year Individual Programs ARTF 447 and 448 enable personalized creative research under tutorial guidance, culminating in professional-level portfolios. Exceptionally qualified students may also undertake independent study through ARTF 594 or 595. Across the curriculum, students gain hands-on experience, critical thinking, technical proficiency, and conceptual sophistication, preparing them for professional artistic practice, exhibitions, and further academic or creative endeavors.
