COURSE CURRICULUM

This Bachelor of Arts (Honours) plan in Religious Studies, taken alongside a Major or Minor in another discipline and enough electives to total 120.00 units, offers a flexible and comprehensive academic pathway. Students begin by completing 6.00 units of introductory RELS courses at the 100-level, establishing a foundational understanding of religious traditions, ideas, and practices. They then take RELS 354, a 3.00-unit core course focused on theory in Religious Studies, which introduces key methodological and analytical frameworks used in the academic study of religion. The program’s flexibility is reflected in its option requirements: students complete 18.00 units of RELS courses at the 300-level or above, allowing for advanced exploration of specialized topics, and an additional 21.00 units of RELS courses at the 200-level or higher, further broadening their knowledge across diverse traditions and themes. The remaining 72.00 units are fulfilled through electives or other plan requirements, which can be tailored to complement interests in areas such as history, politics, global development, philosophy, or languages. This structure allows students to build both depth and breadth in their studies while developing strong analytical, cultural, and critical thinking skills that support a wide range of academic and professional pathways.
