COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Philosophy at Queen’s University is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in philosophical thought while allowing flexibility for students to pursue a minor or other electives to reach a minimum of 120 units. The program’s core curriculum requires students to complete 6 units from 100-level or higher philosophy courses, followed by 6 units in epistemology and metaphysics, either through PHIL 250 or the sequence PHIL 251 and PHIL 252. Additionally, students complete 6 units in the history of moral and political philosophy through PHIL 242 and PHIL 243 or an ethics course PHIL 257, along with 3 units in logic or probability and inductive logic through PHIL 260 or PHIL 266. The program offers options for advanced study, including 6 units at the 400- or 500-level, such as CLST 407 Greek Geometry or upper-level philosophy courses, 18 units at the 300-level or above, and 15 units at the 200-level or higher, allowing students to specialize in areas of interest. To complete the degree, students also select 60 units of electives or other plan requirements, giving flexibility to explore interdisciplinary studies. This structure equips students with critical thinking, analytical, and ethical reasoning skills while enabling intellectual exploration across diverse philosophical fields, preparing them for graduate study or careers requiring strong reasoning and communication abilities.
