COURSE CURRICULUM

The Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (LLCU) Plan at Queen’s University, when combined with a Major or Minor and sufficient electives to reach a minimum of 120 units, leads to a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree and offers a comprehensive interdisciplinary exploration of language, literature, and culture. The core curriculum introduces students to foundational concepts through courses such as Introduction to Culture, Cultural Anthropology, and Stories that Matter, which connect languages, literatures, and cultures in meaningful ways. Students then build proficiency and depth through structured language study, choosing either two languages at the 200-level or above or a combination of one language at the 300-level and another at the 100-level, complemented by additional units at the 100- and 300-levels to reinforce linguistic and cultural understanding. The program also allows for flexible course options at any level, enabling students to explore specialized topics in language, literature, and cultural studies. Through these requirements, students develop critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills, while gaining nuanced insights into cultural expression, identity, and intercultural interaction. Electives and other plan requirements broaden intellectual engagement, allowing learners to tailor their studies to personal and professional interests. Graduates emerge well-prepared for careers in education, translation, international relations, media, or for further academic study in the humanities and social sciences.
