COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Gender Studies at Queen’s University provides a comprehensive program that combines foundational theory, research skills, and practical experience to explore issues of gender, equity, and social justice. The core curriculum begins with introductory courses such as Women, Gender, Difference (GNDS 120) and Gender, Race, and Popular Culture (GNDS 125), followed by courses that examine Racism, Colonialism, and Resistance (GNDS 212) and Sexual and Gender Diversity (GNDS 215), establishing a strong interdisciplinary foundation. Students then progress to advanced study in Feminist Thought (GNDS 311) and Research Methods in Gender Studies (GNDS 345), equipping them with critical analytical and methodological skills. A central component of the program is the Social Justice Practicum (GNDS 441), which enables students to engage directly with community organizing and activism, applying theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts. Beyond the core, students select additional courses at the 300- and 400-levels, allowing for specialization and the pursuit of individual research interests within the field. The program also includes electives and other plan requirements to ensure a total of 120 units, providing flexibility to explore complementary disciplines or pursue interdisciplinary studies. Overall, the Gender Studies BAH prepares students for careers in research, advocacy, policy, education, and other sectors that require critical understanding of gender, diversity, and social change.
