COURSE CURRICULUM

The Film and Media program, offered as a standalone Plan or combined with a Minor and sufficient electives to reach a minimum of 120.00 units, leads to a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree and provides students with a comprehensive foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of film, television, and media studies. The Core curriculum requires students to complete introductory courses such as Film Studies, Media Studies, Film and Media Theory and History, and Fundamentals of Media Production, alongside 9.00 units of production-focused courses covering areas like documentary, video, 16mm film, cinematography, sound techniques, virtual and augmented reality, and post-production, culminating in a 6.00-unit Major Project. The program also includes Options, where students select 24.00 units from advanced-level courses in Film, Animation, Media Arts and Practice, and related fields, alongside courses in transnational media, creative industries, research methods, media and cultural studies, and concept development. Additional flexibility is provided through electives, which allow students to pursue interdisciplinary interests or complementary fields. Overall, the program balances rigorous academic study with hands-on production experience, fostering critical analysis, technical expertise, and creative innovation, equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills required for careers in media production, cultural industries, research, or further graduate studies, while encouraging a nuanced understanding of media’s social, cultural, and technological dimensions.
