COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics program, either as a standalone degree or combined with a Minor, is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in economic theory, quantitative methods, and applied economic analysis, requiring a minimum of 120 units. The core curriculum includes introductory economics or combined micro- and macroeconomics, data science, microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, mathematical economics, and econometrics, providing students with strong analytical, statistical, and modeling skills essential for understanding and addressing complex economic issues. Advanced courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics deepen theoretical and empirical knowledge, preparing students for research or policy work. Students choose between a Seminar or Thesis Option, involving senior-level economics courses or a research-based thesis, fostering independent inquiry and specialized expertise. Complementary courses include economic history, communications, and options in finance, international economics, or interdisciplinary studies through Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPEC), allowing students to tailor the degree to their interests and career goals. Supporting courses in differential and integral calculus ensure proficiency in quantitative reasoning and problem-solving, essential for economic modeling. The program also provides flexibility through electives and other plan requirements, enabling exploration of related fields or skill development.
