COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computing and the Creative Arts program requires 120 units and blends core computational foundations with specialized interdisciplinary study in the arts. Students begin with essential computer science courses—CISC 102, 121, and 124—establishing key skills in discrete structures and programming. They then take COCA 201, an introduction to computing within creative contexts, before advancing into core computing topics such as discrete structures, logic, software specifications, and data structures. Upper-year core courses include Human-Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, Programming Paradigms, and Algorithms I, providing a strong technical base for computational creativity. Students also complete 3.0 units from 400-level CISC or approved substitutes, along with 6.0 additional units from 200-level or above computing courses to broaden their technical expertise. A major feature of the program is the requirement to complete one of four sub-plans—Computing and Art, Drama, Film, or Music—totaling 39.0 units. These pathways allow students to dive deeply into a chosen artistic discipline while integrating computational tools and methods. The remaining 36.0 elective units offer flexibility for further creative, technical, or interdisciplinary exploration. Together, these components prepare graduates for careers in digital media, creative technologies, interactive arts, and software development for artistic applications.
