COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Classics requires 60 of the 120 units needed for the degree, combining a structured core with flexible options that allow students to shape their academic focus. The core consists of 12.0 units, beginning with 6.0 units in CLST 102 and CLST 103, which introduce major themes, methods, and cultural contexts of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, followed by 6.0 units in CLST 200 and CLST 201, which provide intermediate grounding in classical history, literature, and interpretive approaches. Beyond this foundation, students complete 48.0 option units designed to deepen their expertise while offering significant freedom to explore languages, material culture, and thematic interests. This includes 6.0 units from CLST courses at the 400 level, ensuring engagement with advanced research and critical analysis. Students then take 18.0 units from CLST, GREK, LATN, or CLST_Subs at the 300 or 400 level, allowing for specialization in areas such as mythology, archaeology, or Greek and Latin texts. An additional 6.0 units from these subject groups at the 200 level help consolidate intermediate skills, while 18.0 units at the 100 level or above provide space to broaden or diversify their studies, forming a comprehensive and enriching classical education.
