COURSE CURRICULUM

The World Language Studies program, leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree with a total of 90 units, provides students with comprehensive training in one or more languages while integrating cultural, conceptual, and linguistic studies. The program requires completion of core courses including 6.00 units at the 300-level and 6.00 units at the 200-level in languages, alongside 12.00 units from additional language courses, ensuring the development of advanced reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in a language other than English. Students also select 6.00 units from language, conceptual, or interdisciplinary courses, which cover areas such as cultural criticism, linguistics, psycholinguistics, language acquisition, and communicative competence. Conceptual courses may include studies in globalization, diversity, and inclusivity, Indigenous ways of knowing, intercultural relations, or the psychology of language. The program draws from a wide variety of departments, offering courses in modern and classical languages, Indigenous languages, and specialized studies in literature, culture, and communication. Through this interdisciplinary approach, students gain both linguistic proficiency and critical cultural understanding, enabling them to navigate diverse global contexts, engage in research, and pursue careers in education, translation, international relations, or other fields requiring advanced language and intercultural skills. Electives provide flexibility for further specialization, rounding out a comprehensive 90-unit program.
