COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mining Engineering program provides a comprehensive education in the principles, practices, and technologies essential to modern mining, preparing students to tackle challenges across extraction, processing, and sustainability. In the first year, students build a strong foundation with courses in engineering design, communications, applied mathematics, mechanics, thermodynamics, data science, and introductory mining and mineral processing, alongside chemistry and electrical systems, totaling 45.75 units. In the third year, the curriculum becomes specialized, covering drilling and blasting, applied rock mechanics, operations research, mineral industry economics, methods of mineral separation, fluid mechanics, and mining methods such as open pit and underground mining, with additional courses based on chosen options: Mining (N1), Minerals Processing Environmental (N2), or Mine-Mechanical (N3), allowing students to tailor their studies toward mine ventilation, chemical processes, or mechanical systems, totaling 37.5–49 units. Fourth-year courses focus on sustainability, life-cycle assessment, asset reliability, and advanced design and operational projects specific to each option, with complementary studies and technical electives enhancing breadth and depth. Students explore geostatistics, orebody modeling, chemical extraction, process investigations, and mine-mechanical design projects, culminating in 39–39.5 units in the final year. The program emphasizes technical expertise, environmental responsibility, and innovative problem-solving, equipping graduates to lead in a complex, evolving global mining industry.
