COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechatronics and Robotics program at Queen’s provides a comprehensive, multidisciplinary education in mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering, preparing students to design intelligent, automated, and autonomous systems. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in core engineering principles, including physics, chemistry, programming, linear algebra, calculus, mechanics, and introductory mechatronics and robotics design, complemented by engineering communication and graphics courses. The second year deepens technical knowledge through courses in electric circuits, electronics, digital systems, computer architecture, solid mechanics, kinematics and dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, signals and systems, and complex analysis, alongside Mechatronics and Robotics Design II, emphasizing hands-on design experience. In the third year, students engage with advanced concepts in industrial automation, sensors and actuators, automatic control, robotics, microprocessor interfacing, electronics, numerical methods, computer networks, probability, and business practice, supported by Mechatronics and Robotics Design III. The fourth year allows specialization through Mechatronics and Robotics Design IV, Intelligent Machines and Autonomous Systems, complementary studies, and technical electives, with recommended concentrations in automation, robotics, biomedical engineering, or intelligent systems. This structure equips graduates with a unique combination of practical design experience, analytical skills, and interdisciplinary knowledge, ready to innovate in robotics, automation, biomedical applications, and intelligent systems.
