COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering program at Queen’s University provides students with a comprehensive education in the principles and applications of mechanical engineering, preparing them for diverse industries such as automotive, aerospace, energy, biomedical, and manufacturing. In the second year, students complete a rigorous common core, including courses in solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, kinematics and dynamics, electronic circuits for mechatronics, and mathematical and computational tools, alongside engineering design and communications courses, totaling 43.75 units. Depending on their chosen sub-plan—General (ME1), Materials (ME2), or Biomechanical (ME3)—students take specialized third-year courses such as advanced solid mechanics, applied thermodynamics, heat transfer, dynamics and vibration, machine design, automatic control, and laboratory work, totaling approximately 40.5 units, with additional co-requisites for certain labs in ME1 and ME3 options. Fourth-year students focus on technical electives within their chosen sub-plan, complemented by courses in complementary studies, amounting to 26–29.5 units, depending on the program. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience, computational and analytical skills, and interdisciplinary knowledge, ensuring graduates are proficient in design, analysis, manufacturing processes, and materials behavior. This integrated approach equips students with both theoretical understanding and practical expertise, enabling them to innovate, solve complex engineering problems, and pursue advanced careers in research, industry, or further study in mechanical engineering and related fields.
