COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematics and Engineering program at Queen’s University, Applied Mechanics Sub-Plan (M6), provides a rigorous and integrated curriculum that combines advanced mathematics with core engineering principles across four years. In the first year, students complete foundational courses in engineering design, communications, linear algebra, algebraic structures, differential equations, advanced calculus, and real analysis, totaling 22.5 units, establishing a strong mathematical and analytical base. The second year builds on this foundation with both the common core and applied mechanics courses, including solid mechanics, electronic circuits, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanics, totaling 41.5 units, emphasizing practical engineering applications. In the third year, students advance to complex analysis, real analysis, probability, mathematics of engineering systems, and engineering design projects, alongside applied mechanics courses such as solid mechanics II, dynamics and vibration, applied thermo II, machine design, and mechanical engineering laboratories, totaling 63.5 units, integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on problem solving. The fourth year focuses on capstone and professional development through engineering math projects, professional ethics, control theory, continuum mechanics, and complementary studies, totaling 37.5 units, preparing students for professional practice and research. This comprehensive program equips graduates with exceptional analytical, mathematical, and engineering skills, fostering the ability to solve complex technical problems, innovate in engineering design, and pursue careers in industry or advanced graduate studies.
