COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geological Engineering program provides a comprehensive and progressive curriculum designed to integrate earth sciences with engineering principles, preparing students for careers that address complex interactions between human activity and the Earth. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and introductory engineering concepts. The second year focuses on core geological engineering principles, with courses such as Engineering Design & Practice II, Economic and Business Practice, Engineering Communications, Ordinary Differential Equations, and specialized GEOE courses including Geological Engineering Field Methods, Mineralogy, Sedimentology, Geophysical Characterization, and Introduction to Geological Engineering. Students also complete the Geological Engineering Field School during the intersession before third year to gain practical, hands-on experience. The third year deepens technical expertise through courses in Geotechnical Engineering, Geomechanics, Engineering Geology, Applied Geophysics, Structural Geology, Terrain Evaluation, Hydrogeology, Site Investigation and Design, Resource Engineering, Geochemical Characterization, Applied Quantitative Analysis, and a technical elective. The fourth year emphasizes advanced application and integration with the Engineering Design Project I and II, additional technical electives, and complementary studies, enabling students to synthesize theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and interdisciplinary approaches. Across the program, students develop critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, equipping them to plan, evaluate, and execute geological and engineering projects in infrastructure, mining, energy, environmental, and other sectors, while addressing societal and environmental challenges responsibly.
