COURSE CURRICULUM

The Engineering Physics program with a Mechanical sub-plan (P4) provides a comprehensive education combining physics, mathematics, and mechanical engineering principles to prepare students for advanced technological careers. In the first year, students complete foundational courses in vector analysis, differential equations, relativity, quantum physics, oscillations, waves, optics, electric circuits, electricity and magnetism, computational engineering physics, and laboratory experimentation, totaling 33.75 units. In the second year, the Mechanical sub-plan emphasizes mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and fluid power alongside core engineering design and communications courses, bringing the total to 44.75 units. The third year builds on core physics knowledge with quantum mechanics, atomic physics, design projects, experimental physics, mathematical methods, and economic and business practice, amounting to 19.50 units, while the Mechanical sub-plan adds applied thermodynamics, fluid mechanics II, automatic control, electronics for applied scientists, and an additional 300- or 400-level MECH course, totaling 35.00 units. The fourth year focuses on advanced topics with courses in electromagnetic theory, advanced physics laboratory, engineering physics design project, thesis, and an engineering elective for 18.50 units. Mechanical sub-plan students select three courses from Mechanical List B and Physics List A, covering areas such as thermal systems, vibrations, fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, mechatronics, and robotics, ensuring at least 37.5 units. This integrated program equips graduates with advanced analytical, experimental, and design skills applicable to cutting-edge mechanical and applied physics challenges.
