COURSE CURRICULUM

The Engineering Chemistry program offers a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both chemistry and chemical engineering. In the first year, students complete general foundational courses to prepare for advanced studies. The second-year core curriculum emphasizes the principles and applications of chemical processes, including process data analysis, chemical processes and systems, ChemEtronics, main group chemistry, chemical reactivity, thermodynamics of energy conversion, fluid mechanics, applied organic chemistry, and methods of structure determination, along with complementary mathematics and engineering communications courses, totaling 46.25 units. In the third year, students build on this foundation with courses in fluid phase and reaction equilibrium, chemical reaction engineering, heat and mass transfer, biochemical engineering, transition metal chemistry, organic process development, design of unit operations, electrochemical engineering, instrumental chemical analysis, and experimental chemistry, as well as courses in economic and business practice, engineering communications, ethics, and professionalism, with electives included, totaling 42.50 units. The fourth-year curriculum integrates advanced and specialized topics, including applied surface and colloid science, chemical process design I and II, electrochemical energy systems, quantum mechanics, and a significant research project, along with additional electives, totaling 41.50 units. Across all four years, the program combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional development, preparing graduates to tackle complex challenges in chemical industries and research environments, while meeting the requirements for dual accreditation in chemistry and engineering.
