COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering undergraduate program at Queen’s University provides a comprehensive, four-year curriculum designed to equip students with the technical knowledge, professional skills, and practical experience needed to design and maintain critical infrastructure. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in engineering principles through courses in physics, chemistry, materials, earth systems, computer programming, engineering graphics, applied mechanics, and mathematics, alongside design and client-based projects that develop problem-solving and teamwork skills, totaling 43.10 units. The second year advances technical competence with courses in professional skills, economics, communications, civil engineering chemistry and materials, numerical methods, solid mechanics, hydraulics, and applied mathematics, complemented by at least six units from complementary studies, summing to 44.45 units. In the third year, students engage in structural analysis, steel and timber design, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, groundwater, water and wastewater, and civil engineering design and practice, while continuing professional development and complementary studies for a total of 40.50 units. The fourth-year curriculum emphasizes advanced design and professional skills through Civil Engineering Design and Practice IV, electives, and complementary studies, totaling 37.25 units. Across all four years, the program integrates rigorous technical training with real-world design projects and professional skill development, preparing graduates to address complex engineering challenges, ensure sustainable infrastructure, and assume leadership roles in civil engineering practice and research.
