COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program at Providence offers a comprehensive curriculum drawing from both the Department of Counselling and the Department of Biblical and Theological Studies. Counselling courses include foundational and advanced topics such as Counselling Theory Practicum I-IV, Marriage and Family Counselling, Family Systems, Ethical and Legal Issues for Counsellors, Psychopharmacology, Crisis and Trauma Counselling, Counselling Across Cultures, Theories of Counselling and Psychotherapy, Psychopathology, Group Psychotherapy, Congregational Care and Counselling, Psychological Assessment, Psychology of Emotion, Research Design and Methodology, Human Development, and a counselling elective. Complementing this, the Biblical and Theological Studies courses deepen the student’s integration of faith and practice through Reading the Church’s Bible, Integration of Theology and Psychology, Theology and Practice of Christian Spirituality and Formation, Theological Foundations, and electives in Old Testament, New Testament, and Theology. This balanced program equips students with the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and spiritual foundation necessary for effective counselling in diverse settings, preparing them for a career that thoughtfully integrates psychological principles with Christian worldview.
